NGO project -Cool Biz-

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment (MOE) began advocating the Cool Biz campaign in summer 2005 as a means to help save energy by limiting air conditioning. According to the Environment Ministry, central government ministries were to set air conditioner temperatures at 28°C until September. The Cool Biz dress code advises workers to starch collars so they stand up and to wear trousers made from materials that breathe and absorb moisture.Additionally, workers are encouraged to wear short sleeved shirts without jackets or ties.

I think Cool Biz is great to protect global warming. After previous Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi wore Cool Biz clothes, I think many Japanese people re-recognized about Global Warming. I think it is good to wear Cool Biz clothes at summer because you could cut the electricity of air-conditioner or electric fan. By wearing Cool Biz you won’t disturb by the summer heat. It would be nice if you don’t use the air-conditioner for even an hour or two. This contribution would be earth-friendly.
But still many businessmen say they don’t want to wear Cool Biz clothes when they have to meet with client companies or company’s customers. Most of the times, they talk about business seriously so they feel if they don’t wear ties or jackets during business negotiations or any other serious occasions, they feel it is impolite and rude to business partners. That why we still see many white colored workers wearing white shirts, pants, jackets, and ties during summer. By wearing jackets and ties, many businessmen can not live without the air-conditioner.
I think businessmen should wear Cool Biz when they don’t meat their business partners but wear ties and jackets before they meet them. This is vicious cycle but if we want to stop Global Warming, maybe they have to try this way.

When I watched pre-Prime Minister Koizumi who was wearing casual clothes to promote the Cool Biz on TV two years ago, I didn't understand why he wore such casual clothes. However, I'm in favor of this campaign now. Seemingly, this plan may not work so much, but I want to believe that like this small effort could stop global warming.
As mika stated above, I think this casual styling is not fit for the formal job. Actually, many companies still don’t adopt this campaign in spite of Japanese government’s promotion. However, I want Japanese government to continue promoting because the effect of big organization is powerful, I think.
